2027: Peter Obi Unveils Vision for Productive, Prosperous Nigeria

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has unveiled a broad vision for a productive and prosperous Nigeria, pledging far-reaching reforms in education, healthcare, industrialisation and human capital development if elected president.

In a statement released on Wednesday to mark July 1, 2026, Obi recalled his decision to seek the presidency, saying he remained committed to placing Nigeria on the path of unity and national transformation.

He said he would, in the coming weeks and months, unveil a comprehensive roadmap aimed at addressing poor governance, improving the quality of life of Nigerians and laying the foundation for sustainable peace, progress and prosperity.

According to Obi, his vision is anchored on the principles of national unity, inclusion, social justice, equity and the freedom of every Nigerian to pursue lawful aspirations.

He identified education and healthcare as the cornerstones of his proposed reforms, describing human capital development as the most critical investment for national growth.

“Robust human capital is indispensable infrastructure for national progress. It serves as the fundamental capital upon which daily life, economic expansion and the delivery of essential public services depend,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor pledged to establish a presidential task force to tackle the growing number of out-of-school children immediately after assuming office.

He also promised to prioritise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as part of efforts to drive industrialisation, create jobs and promote value addition in agriculture through industrial parks across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

Obi said his administration would strengthen funding for TVET institutions through partnerships involving government, the private sector and faith-based educational organisations, while encouraging apprenticeship programmes modelled after Germany’s dual education system.

He lamented the paradox of high unemployment despite Nigerian entrepreneurs relocating businesses abroad because of a shortage of skilled labour, insisting that the country must transition from a consumption-driven economy to a production-driven one.

The NDC presidential candidate also pledged to promote character and civic education to strengthen trust, leadership and shared national values, describing them as essential ingredients for national development.

Obi concluded the statement by reaffirming his campaign slogan, declaring that “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
