Tinubu Celebrates Rescue of Oriire Students and Teachers, Calls for Medical Assistance for Victims

President Bola Tinubu has expressed happiness over the successful rescue of the students and teachers taken from the Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. He praised security forces for ending the 56-day struggle with a well planned operation.

The President acknowledged the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for carrying out what he called a professional rescue that freed the victims without causing any additional harm.

He noted that this operation also led to the capture of eight suspected kidnappers, while several others were taken down.

Tinubu stated that this rescue has brought relief to both the affected families and the country, while also highlighting the trauma experienced by the victims and their loved ones since they were taken.

“I am very pleased that our security forces successfully rescued the kidnapped students and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso in Oyo State today after an operation driven by military, police, and intelligence efforts that eliminated some of the terrorists involved and captured eight of them,” said the President.

He called this operation a significant achievement that ended more than 50 days of uncertainty.

“This successful military operation has ended a siege and standoff that lasted over 50 days, bringing relief to the entire nation, especially to the affected families. On behalf of the country, I want to thank the officers and soldiers of our armed forces, along with the intelligence agencies and police, for safely rescuing the children and their teachers,” he stated.

The President promised that those who were behind the kidnapping would be brought to justice, including those responsible for the death of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed by the kidnappers during this event.

“My government will ensure justice for these children and their teachers, as well as for Mr. Oyedokun’s family, who suffered a terrible loss at the hands of these terrorists,” he said.

Tinubu also praised the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government throughout the rescue mission and urged them to enhance security around schools to prevent similar situations in the future.

He additionally instructed relevant emergency agencies to collaborate with the Oyo State Government to provide necessary medical care and support for the rescued students and teachers.
