LG, AXA Mansard Launch Free Malaria Insurance Scheme for Nigerians

In a bold step to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against malaria, LG Electronics and AXA Mansard Health Limited have unveiled a new partnership aimed at providing free malaria insurance coverage for Nigerian families.

The collaboration followed shortly after LG unveiled its new cooling air conditioning system designed to repel mosquitoes, a technological breakthrough that ultimately inspired the formal launch of the malaria insurance initiative at the company’s head office in Lagos.

The initiative combines LG’s social responsibility initiatives with AXA Mansard’s health insurance expertise to offer Nigerians both access to clean water and free medical protection against malaria, one of the nation’s most persistent health challenges.

Delivering the keynote address, Managing Director of LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Hyoung Sub Ji, reaffirmed the brand’s position as a global leader in technology and its dedication to improving lives beyond products.

He explained that LG’s contribution goes beyond electronics, extending to community well being through long term health and environmental projects.

According to him, malaria remains one of the deadliest diseases in West Africa, accounting for nearly 40 percent of illnesses in Nigeria, where poor water conditions often worsen its spread. In response, LG has embarked on an ambitious borehole project to improve water access across the country.

“So far, we have installed over 30 boreholes in various Nigerian communities,” he said. “Each borehole benefits between 500 and 1,000 people, and our goal is to install 300 more in the next three years. Ultimately, we plan to reach 500 boreholes nationwide as part of our corporate social responsibility.”

Mr. Ji described the malaria insurance initiative as a way of giving back to customers and supporting public health.

He revealed that the pilot phase of the project began two months ago, starting with a borehole installation in Abuja before extending to 29 other locations carefully chosen based on water quality assessments.

Chief Client Officer of AXA Mansard, Mrs. Jumoke Odunlami, in her keynote address, commended LG for its consistent product quality and commitment to Nigerians’ well being.

She stressed that health must remain a top priority, citing the World Health Organization’s report which recorded over 600,000 malaria related deaths globally in 2022, with Nigeria accounting for about 27 percent of those fatalities.

“This partnership with LG is not just a business alliance but a mission to save lives,” she said. “Through this malaria insurance scheme, families can now access testing, medication, and treatment completely free of charge courtesy of LG and AXA Mansard.”

Mrs. Odunlami noted that the initiative aligns with both companies’ shared goal of eradicating malaria in Nigeria and improving access to quality healthcare through innovative insurance solutions.

Head of Marketing at AXA Mansard, Mr. Olusesan Ogunyooye, explained that the insurance offering is directly linked to LG product purchases. “Once a customer purchases an LG product — whether it’s an air conditioner, refrigerator, or television — they automatically qualify for a free malaria insurance plan,” he said.

The plan, he noted, is available in three tiers – Standard, Classic, and Premium — each valid for one year and offering health benefits worth up to ₦25,000. The Standard package covers two individuals, the Classic package covers up to six family members, while the Premium package extends coverage further, including additional cash benefits for medical expenses.

He added that the insurance is not limited to malaria alone but includes other basic healthcare needs, with coverage redeemable across AXA Mansard’s network of over 5,000 pharmacies and partner clinics nationwide.

An Assistant Product Manager of LG’s Eco Solution Division, who shared her personal experience as a malaria survivor, described the product as “a necessity for every Nigerian household.”

She emphasized that the initiative reflects LG’s deep understanding of local health realities and its commitment to technological solutions that improve quality of life.

In his closing remark, Head of Corporate Marketing and Communications at LG Electronics, Mr. Paul Mba, reaffirmed the company’s pledge to continue investing in projects that touch lives across the country. “LG operates through 39 stores across Nigeria, and with each new product we introduce, we aim to promote healthier, safer living,” he said. “This collaboration with AXA Mansard is only the beginning of broader efforts to safeguard families and empower communities.”
