IGP Alerted on Governor Abiodun’s Alleged Killer Squad in Ogun State

IGP/Showunmi

The New Inspector General of Police (IGP), Egbetokun, has been alerted about the activities of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s alleged killer squad in Ogun State. The former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Ogun state stakeholder, Otunba Segun Showunmi, wrote a letter to the IGP to remind him of the security implications of such activities taking place in the state. Showunmi detailed that a few weeks ago, agents of Governor Abiodun, surrounded the state high court in Isabo and recruited non-state actors, who masqueraded as enforcers of parks and garages personnel.

The agents were reported to be miscreants, cultists and gun runners. Showunmi revealed that the police were present at the scene yet did nothing. He also mentioned that the State Police Public Relations Officer lied about the incident. Showunmi stated opposition elements in a democracy should not be brutalized by the governor’s agents, as no one has a monopoly of madness. He called on Egbetokun to impress on Governor Abiodun and his team that democracy will not yield to criminal manipulations.

Showunmi reminded the IGP that politicians recruiting non-state actors in the northeast led to the madness that cost human and material resources. He questioned if the opposition to Governor Dapo Abiodun will also need to raise such soldiers of fortune. Showunmi insisted that Egbetokun must discourage such attitudes that could endanger democracy in the state.

He also wished to furnish the IGP with the names and telephone numbers of Governor Abiodun’s alleged killer squad to demand that they issue an undertaking that such actions would no longer be tolerated. Showunmi expressed concerns that Ogun has been peaceful until Governor Abiodun introduced his killer squads and appealed to the new Inspector General of Police to act fast to maintain order in the state.

Showunmi concluded by congratulating the IGP on his appointment as the Inspector General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that he wished him the best as he assumes his duties.
