The government has been warned to discard the idea of concessioning airports in the country as it is capable of attracting external aggression.
The General Secretary of Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) Comrade AbdulRasaq Saidu, who revealed this in an interview on the planned concession of airports by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo said, concession of airport was a no-go area.
According to Saidu, all Federal government establishments that were concessioned by the past government were not doing well citing example with power and telecommunications.
“Concession in aviation, is going to expose Nigeria to external aggression, particularly with this International security threat everywhere. Those already concessioned like NEPA, the oil sector, telecommunication. We are paying the highest premium in telecom with its poor services”
“Airports belong to Nigerians and we should consider the security of the country. It might lead to bring in ammunition”
While arguing that concession was not beneficial to workers and government, the ANAP scribe revealed that the issue of concession was before competent court jurisdiction.
He said aviation cannot be allowed to be depleted adding, that what happened in the oil sector with failed promises to repair the refineries will not allowed to happen in aviation.
He noted that Keyamo has spent over one year in office and gas failed to name board members for aviation agencies.
According to Saidu, there were more pressing issues than concession in the sector warning that the 50% deduction will finally collapse the aviation sector in the country.
